Throughout history, education has been playing a big role in our daily life. Now days, there are still millions of children who don't even know how to spell their name. This has been a problem all around the world, but especially on those countries were education is limited: either by poverty and/or marginalization. These children find themselves on the margins of the education system and do not benefit from learning that is vital to their intellectual and social development. Education is really important, as it teaches the children not to be ignorant, not to be illiterate and hopefully get a job, and most importantly, it is one step forward to changing the world.
Undeniably, many children from disadvantaged backgrounds are forced to abandon their education due to health problems related to malnutrition or in order to work and provide support for the family. This is one big problem as it sometimes leads to something bigger and more dangerous, such as militias, drugs distribution, and/or prostitution. Education allows us to discover ourselves, our environment and our world; and to make educated choices about our future. Educated men and women have the skills, information and self-confidence to make better parents, workers and citizens.
People that are educated tend to have better paying jobs, be more law abiding, healthier and educate their own children better. Research has shown that beginning a child's education early and well is extremely important because "a child that gets off to a good start in reading rarely stumbles. Those children who fall behind tend to stay behind for the rest of their academic lives." Not only does a lack of education hurt us for the rest of our academic lives but our lives in other ways too. Some simple skills, such as reading and writing, can be really helpful in your daily life one way or another at some point in your future. Many opportunities are lost every day because of the lack of education, especially for those children who actually want to study and plan on doing something more than just working for someone.
